Regretfully, the Ananda Mantra Choir events have been suspended until January 2010. Please check back later this year for an update. Thank you to all who have participated in the past.

There are still lots of events to engage you in chanting, please see Blue Lotus Music October 2009 Events Calendar.
For those who are interested in the Nada Yoga classes and Unity Kirtan, please see Blue Lotus Music October 2009 Events Calendar. Vancouver has a host of activities for us to enjoy with our senses and our minds. As always, join us in the Sacred Lotus.

The Interspiritual Ananda Mantra Choir (I AM choir) is a community choir that bases its material on sacred phrases and texts from a variety of traditions. It is 'interspiritual' and inclusive of world sounds. The intent is to creating a sacred atmosphere for both the participants and listeners.

Using simple chants and harmonies we blend our voices inspiring Joy filling us to overflowing. We sing sacred phrases from a variety of traditions combined with western harmonies that lead us to a place of stillness, inner awareness and peace.

We have a wide variety of skill levels and so assisting each other to grow with our voices is very important.

I’ll bring you and you’ll bring me and
we’ll bring each other along!

The I AM Choir’s momentum comes from a practice in India called kirtan, combined with western harmonies and counterpoint (starting with simple rounds and moving to a variety of possible harmonic structures.) Vocal practice leads into a place of emotional freedom, inner awareness and peace.

When you start singing,
all of your teachers, friends and family are in the room with you, advising and criticizing.

But as you begin to sing, one by one they walk out.

And when you feel yourself singing, you walk out.

The work that we are doing here is not about the external ‘perfecting’ of the music but experiencing the internal and eternal Self. It is being able to stay on your own part. In other words it is about blending our part with others and not being taken away from our own task. This has a great impact on how we live our lives outside the choir. In this way we can partake in the harmony and ‘Music of the Spheres’ that is deeply satisfying and makes no judgment about outcomes but expresses our own deepest connection to our own Soul.

David Alan Embry, Music Director

Choir Member Commitment

We are community choir, welcoming all who come and strive to make the choir a pleasant experience for everyone. Because we depend upon each other, please be on time and ready to sing.

Keep in mind that some people are allergic to scents, perfumes and oils. Please be considerate. Also be sure to turn off cell phones so as to not disrupt our emotional spirits.

The musical director will split the group into sections. During these times, take time to go over your own part, do a breathing practice, listen to the sounds around you, and generally be supportive of the work going on.

David Alan Embry as the musical director of the choir is the one responsible for musical development. Suggestions for the next practice session are welcome after each rehearsal. You are encouraged to ask questions and make suggestions as we rehearse. Your voice and ideas are very important to our group.

In order for us to grow, choir members are asked to assist in minor tasks to insure a successful choir. We will develope a task list as we go along. Please help out.

Thank You.
